The mission at the Deer Hollow Farm to provide our community with environmental education programs as well as public place for the community to enjoy the outdoors. Each year Deer Hollow welcomes more than 100,000 visitors and thousands of students – which is pretty amazing.
But we wouldn’t be able to do it without the help of more than 100 volunteers.
If you have ever considered volunteering, now is the time to do it! There are many different ways to volunteer at Deer Hollow Farm. Whether you are a teen, and adult, or have limited free time, there are volunteer opportunities that will work for you. Below are a few of the ways you can help Deer Hollow Farm continue to grow and bring environmental educational programs to our community.
Become A Docent
Docents work with the thousands of student who visit the farm each year by taking them through the Farm and talking about the animals, gardening, and Ohlone culture. Interested in finding out more about becoming a docent? Read this post to learn more about the position and the required training. Weekend hours are available as well.
Become a Garden and Orchard Volunteer
If you love to garden, this might be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Our garden volunteers work with our staff to help plant and maintain the teaching garden and orchard. Green thumbs are not required!
Volunteer to Help with Livestock
Love animals? Don’t mind getting a little dirty? Our livestock volunteers help feed, clean, and care for all the animals at Deer Hollow Farm. This include cows, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, and pigs.
Summer Camp Interns
Our summer camp interns help counselors lead activities for youth ages 5 – 14 years old at the Farm and in the wilderness. Interns must be 14 years old and above. This is a great opportunity for teens to hone responsibility skills and grow.
Volunteer for Special Events
The Friends of Deer Hollow Farm hosts several special events throughout the year including the Farm Tours, Ohlone Day, and Spooky Holloween. These events draw in hundreds of visitors, which means The Friends of Deer Hollow Farm need extra hands.
With the help of volunteers just like you, Deer Hollow Farm will be able to continue providing a place to learn, grow, and enjoy nature for decades to come. Please call 650-903-6430 for more information about any of these volunteer opportunities.
