• Rancho Wildlife Abounds

By Jenise Henrikson, July 7, 2016

There’s a lot of beautiful wildlife to enjoy in Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve, home of Deer Hollow Farm. The best way to enjoy the many wild creatures at Rancho is from a distance, since this is their home. Always respect that they are wild.

The many habitats in Rancho range from mixed riparian and coast live oak woodlands to central coast scrub to grassy meadows. These habitats support many wildlife species. Walks through the preserve are usually rewarded with many types of wildlife sightings. Black-tailed deer, bobcat, coyote, rabbit and raccoons make their home here. You’ll also find amphibians like the newt and western toad as well as reptiles like the alligator lizard, gopher snake, and western rattlesnake. The bird population varies with the season but includes hawks, woodpeckers, scrub jays, and quails.
